Nestled among the southeastern ranges of the Khentii Mountains, the canyon is surrounded by dense pine forests, towering cliffs, and pristine wilderness, making it one of the region's most scenic destinations.

Situated approximately 7 km from the center of Binder Soum, Yargui Canyon offers breathtaking panoramic views of the Onon River and several sacred mountains, including Shalz, Delger Nuga, Jargalant, Delgerkhaan, Khulant Uul, and Bor Bulag. Perched on a high ridge, the canyon provides exceptional viewpoints for watching both sunrise and sunset over the surrounding valleys. Due to its outstanding natural beauty and ecological value, the area is protected as a locally designated conservation site.
The canyon is also an important historical and cultural landmark. Ancient rock surfaces preserve tribal tamgas (clan symbols), petroglyphs depicting wildlife, and inscriptions of Buddhist mantras carved in both Classical Mongolian and Tibetan scripts. These carvings indicate that the area has long been regarded as a sacred place. Benefiting from a warm microclimate, Yargui Canyon is home to rich biodiversity, with impressive rock formations, pine forests, and the winding Onon River creating a peaceful and picturesque environment for nature lovers and history enthusiasts alike.

When exploring Binder Soum, consider following the "In the Footsteps of the Great Khans" route, which includes Rashaan Khad, Oglogchiin Kherem (Oglogchiin Wall), Binder Ovoo, and Yargui Canyon. Together, these sites offer an enriching journey through Mongolia's natural beauty and historical heritage.
Best Time to Visit
The ideal time to visit is from June to September, when the weather is pleasant and the landscape is at its greenest. However, visitors who arrive in early May will have the opportunity to see the canyon's namesake Yargui flowers (pasque flowers) blooming across the hillsides, creating a particularly beautiful spring landscape.
Things to Keep in Mind
The forests of the Khentii region are known to have a high population of ticks during the warmer months. If you plan to hike through wooded areas, it is recommended to wear long sleeves and long trousers, use insect and tick repellent, and check your clothing and gear after your walk to ensure a safe and enjoyable visit.
